Sharing Our Perspectives: Feedback from Layla

We pose a two questions to first-time moms of age 35 or better to see the range of perspectives and ideas that women across the country have on the core topic of this website and upcoming book.

Sharon: How did you react to getting the Advanced Maternal Age stamp on your medical chart (or having that label applied to you) What did it mean to you, if anything?

Layla.: I was shocked…I’m pregnant now, at 34 years old, but giving birth at 35. I don’t feel “old” and certainly didn’t realize that giving birth at 35 would be seen as such. I have other issues, such as an incompetent cervix, to worry about that have nothing to do with my age.

Sharon: Do you identify yourself as an “Older Mom”? If yes, what does that mean to you?

Layla: No, I don’t. Maybe I will, one day…I can see how chasing a teenager around in my 50′s will be challenging and I might reconsider then. But for now, no.
